Personification

We are studying personification. Personification is a special kind of metaphor in which a nonhuman or nonliving thing or quality is talked about as if it were human or alive.
The Toaster by William Jay Smith
A silver-scaled Dragon with jaws flaming red
Sits at my elbow and toasts my bread
I hand him fat slices, and then, one by one,
He hands them back when he sees they are done.

  1. We did a Venn diagram showing comparison/contrasts between dragons and toasters. Then we were thinking, sharing and pairing when writing new definitions for personification.
